Incompletes

There are two types of incompletes: temporary incompletes and permanent incompletes.

A temporary incomplete (IT) is an interim mark used when a student is granted extra days beyond the formal end of the semester to complete required papers or to write the final examination.  An “IT” (rather than a numerical grade) will appear on the student’s transcript until such time as the final grade is updated.

A temporary incomplete is granted by the Dean of Academics and Student Services for serious reasons only.   Students must respect the deadline agreed upon by the Dean.  If the deadline has been met, the student’s grade will be updated to reflect the additional course work done.  If the deadline has not been met, the grade will reflect only the course work done during the semester.

Under certain circumstances, the Dean of Academics and Student Services can assign permanent incompletes (IN) to a student who, for serious medical reasons, is unable to complete an academic session.  The student must obtain a Request for Permanent Incompletes Form which must be completed by a health professional.  This form authorizes the Dean to communicate directly with the health professional concerned if this is deemed necessary.

The Request for Permanent Incompletes Form is a confidential document.  Placed in a sealed envelope, this form becomes a part of the student’s file and will be examined by auditors for the Ministry of Education.  No permanent incomplete will be granted without properly completed supporting documents.

IMPORTANT:   Students may not apply for permanent incompletes retroactively after a semester is completed and final grades have been transmitted to the Ministry of Education.

Additional information concerning incompletes may be obtained from the Academic Advisor, room 234.
